As the year draws to a close and we reflect on significant events it seems timely to add this recording made in my Norwich city garden as the sun rose upon a rather frenetic morning in May. The British general election results were being announced and they were a huge surprise. Careers were being destroyed and new names were taking centre stage. Angry words were being spoken, tears were being shed and history was being made. A night of drama was unfolding while in our garden the sun slowly rose on a beautiful morning,the birds began to sing and it all seemed rather far away. As the year ebbs away and we make our lists of the best and worst of everything lets not forget that all around lies the beauty and sounds of the natural world if we can only take a moment to look and listen.
